Biography

My name is Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam. I am a Reader in the Microbiology Department of the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. I obtained my Bachelors’ and Masters’ degrees from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria, and my PhD from the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom. I was a beneficiary of the Academic Training Scholarship of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in 2012. In 2021, I was a Fulbright Visiting Research Scholar at the North Carolina State University (NCSU) in the United States. I teach several courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I have held many administrative positions at the university, including being an academic adviser, the Secretary of the Departmental Academic Board, the Chairperson of the Mentor-Mentee Committee of the Faculty of Life Sciences, and a member of the University Ceremonials Committee. I have also supervised many undergraduate and postgraduate students’ research projects. My research interests fall under the broad microbial biotechnology theme, specifically focusing on food preservation, fermentations and bioprocessing for producing renewable, high-value fuels and chemicals. I am the Honourable Commissioner of Health of Kwara State, Nigeria from September 2023 todate.
